Manmade Sun
Controllable nuclear fusion, how far is it from us?
Just yesterday, a new world record was born, and it was in China:
The "artificial sun" EAST of the Hefei Institute of Material Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences continued to "burn" for 101 seconds at a temperature of 120 million degrees Celsius!
This breakthrough has extended the original world record of 100 million degrees Celsius and 20 seconds by five times in one fell swoop.
Song Yuntao, vice president of the Hefei Institute of Material Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, said:
The achievement of a new record further proves the feasibility of nuclear fusion energy, and also lays a physical and engineering foundation for commercialization.
Some researchers involved in the project sighed with excitement:
It feels that "50 years forever" is becoming 49 years.
